Entry casemate. At the beginning of June 1940. A few hours before the beginning of the hostilities, part of the crew is photographed with his regimental sergeant major, in front of the entry of the casemate (the Photo "glorious defense of the Bridge St-Louis" Autoédition Cima 1995)

Actual position of the entry. It is noted that the trench which protected the entry was levelled.

Barrier anti-tank devices. Diagram of the barrier launched and anchored at its two ends (Diagram "the glorious defense of the Bridge St-Louis" Autoédition Cima 1995).

Anchoring is not sufficient to make it possible to resist thorough of an armoured vehicle. After having set up the barrier, the alpine ones thus reinforce it in its center by means of two metal beams propped up in the road. When the barrier is not launched, two manhole covers mask the points of fixing of the beams. (Photograph "the glorious defense of the Bridge St-Louis" Autoédition Cima 1995).

Room barrier. The mechanism of launching of the barrier is with more reliable hand drive operation, close to the border, than an electric drive (Photo Michel Truttmann).

WC. Just after May 25, 1940 the men are on the quay level, in front of the casemate. Behind them one distinguishes the pilot wheels from the voute of the public WC. This WC is only with a few meters of the casemate and however, during several days, the men blocked in their shelter have to make their needs in a mess tin which they emptied by the opening FM of their main door (the Photo "glorious defense of the Bridge St-Louis" Autoédition Cima 1995)

Bridge. Sight of the St-Louis bridge taken just after June 25, 1940 (the Photo "glorious defense of the Bridge St-Louis" Autoédition Cima 1995). Italian affairent itself to release the bridge remained intact. Indeed, in their plan of defense French could not consider the installation of blast hole to blow up the bridge because since 1861 it is completely in Italian territory.

Triangle border. On this sight of the St-Louis bridge before 1940 (Collection Roger Marcel) one distinguishes very well the trangle border and one notes that the bridge is completely in Italian territory. This irrefutable fact comes from the signature of a signed convention on March 7, 1861 between France and Sardinia "(...) passer by Guardieura and the summit della Giranda, it [the border] will go down by the rocks from this name and will lead to the entry of the bridge of Saint-Louis which remains in Piedmont (limits). Bridge with the sea, the talweg of the brook of Saint-Louis will form the line border (...)"
